We are proud to partner with the Orange County Bureau of Jewish Education and other synagogues in Orange County to participate in the 8th grade community program. The 8th grade community program aims to foster each participant’s inclusion in the greater Orange County/Long Beach Jewish teen community and maintain/strengthen their connections to their congregational High School experience. The 8th grade community program includes the following:

  • Tuesday night Program: SHM 8th graders attend twice a month on Tuesday evenings from 5:00-7:30 pm with our 9th graders. Dinner and social time will be available to all of our students from 5:00-5:30 p.m. At 5:30 pm, our students will begin core hour, taught by Marisa Kaiser, which focuses on ethics, relationships, friends, parents and what tools will help them to make tough choices they will be faced with as teenagers. The elective hour will follow at 6:30 pm and topics will include art, cooking, debate, Modern Hebrew, Hot Topics and more. All of the classes will provide the students with an opportunity to deal with contemporary, ethical issues in a safe, open, and friendly Jewish environment.
  • Camp Retreat: In January, our 8th graders will join hundreds of other 8th graders throughout Orange County for an experiential camp experience through Bureau of Jewish Education.
  • Jr. Jewbilations: Social youth group events for 8th graders throughout Orange County.
  • Social Action Sunday: 8th graders and their parents will join together with other 8th graders from the community to make a difference and help others through social action.
