Life Cycle Events

The journey of life is punctuated with significant milestones, each honored and celebrated within our close-knit community at SHM.

From the joyous arrival of a new baby, where our clergy assists in the cherished rituals of naming and Brit Milah, to the poignant ceremonies of Bar/Bat Mitzvah and Adult B’nai Mitzvah, we stand together in marking the spiritual maturation of our members. The sacred bonds of marriage are joyfully celebrated, forging new beginnings within the tapestry of our shared faith. Even in times of sorrow, through funerals and memorials, our compassionate clergy and Chesed committee extend a comforting hand, offering solace and support.

At every stage, our traditions guide us, enriching our lives with a profound sense of belonging and spiritual fulfillment.

Birth & Baby

Before or after your baby is born our clergy meet with you to discuss Hebrew names, the Brit Milah (circumcision) ceremony for boys, and our recommendations for a Mohel, or the naming ceremony for girls. Once the baby is born the Rabbi will be there for these ceremonies to help you and your family celebrate and welcome your new child into the Jewish people.

Bar/Bat Mitzvah

A defining moment in the life of a Jew is when he or she becomes a Bar/Bat Mitzvah. Our Rabbis and Cantor play a major role in this important life cycle event. For more information, please click here.

Adult B’nai Mitzvah

A B’nai Mitzvah is the highest mitzvah in all of Judaism. SHM offers an intensive nine month course designed for students who wish to learn Hebrew, basic Judaism and celebrate the ceremony of Bar/Bat Mitzvah at the conclusion of the class. For more information, please click here.

Weddings

One of the most special times in a couple’s lives is the celebration of their love with a marriage wedding ceremony. Our Rabbis and Cantor play an active role in preparing each couple for their new Jewish life together and with the details of a Jewish wedding ceremony. Birthdays & Anniversaries

Every month congregants’ birthdays and anniversaries are honored as they are called up to the Bimah for a special blessing and celebratory song.

Funerals/Memorials

Our clergy is there for our members in good times and in times of sorrow. When someone is sick, our Rabbis show up and give support. In the case where death is expected or has occurred, our Rabbis are there to help give guidance and support in a loving and caring way. In addition, our Chesed committee is there to bring comfort and help families in many different ways.

Memorial Plaques

Memorial plaques are a way of honoring the deceased family member or friend. A light is lit each year in memory of a person’s yahrzeit. For more information, please click here.
